Dramaturge Findings.

My name is Leah Cooke, and I am the head dramaturge. on Wednesday I studied Shakespeares' interactions with the Queen (Elizabeth the First), the globe theater, and random things about Midsummers Nights Dream. Here are some big facts I've found.
  • Shakespeares troupe acted in front of the Queen twice; Christmas, 1594, at Greenwich palace, and Christmas, 1597, at Whitehall palace.
  • Noble men and Royalty did not go to the globe theater, so Shakespeare's troupe would come to them.
  • Midsummers' Night Dream did not have any known historical references.
  • The Globe theater could hold several thousand people
  • a flag was on top of the Theater: a red for comedy, white for tragedy
  • it cost one penny to stand in the pit
  • the next floor up would cost 2 pennys, and then the top floor had two places; a "gentlemans' room" which cost 4 pennys, and a Lords room which was for the very rich.

J Newman Post (v1.0)

Hello and welcome to the Baker Midsummer Nights Dream blog everyone! My name is Julian Newman and I am working with Ms.Patrick to set up this blog. My main job is to make music for the production, which is a big collaboration between directors and us musicians. I am working with Sam, Cole and John Kinne to make the best music to set the tone of the play/scenes. I play trumpet, but I also have experience on the piano. Sam and Cole are both snare drum player, but they can also do bells (xylophone and glockenspiel). John is a fellow trumpet player, and I play in an ensemble out side of school with him. A lot of the stuff that we're doing is mostly messing around on the different instruments until we find something cool, and then to work on it to make it solid. We already have made up a few pieces for different characters, Sam and Cole made a xylophone piece for the fairy dances, I did jazz for mechanicals on a jazz kit using the synth/keyboard (with a bit of actual drum help from Sam). Thanks for reading! And please stay tuned for more updates.

Photography

In the documentary department, I started taking pictures yesterday. Soon, I will be taking pictures of everyone involved in MSND. Mr. Haight will be teaching me how to work the picture software on the computer soon. Stay posted!

Video Taping

So far over the two weeks we have been doing our project, we have learned how to edit some video and learn about the cameras. We just started to tape and photograph yesterday and it is confusing to know where everyone is because all the different groups are spread out. Once we find the groups we study them for about five minutes before we start to tape. The jobs are becoming easier as we learn more about them and we can't wait to get into deep action!

Welcome to the Baker Midsummer Play Reflections

This blog is a place for all the Midsummer Night's Dream participants to post their reflections and ideas about their experiences while helping to make this play come alive. Acting practice...stage sets...lighting...research...documentation of the process...costume creation...hauling heavy stuff...all of these and more are the pieces that make the puzzle a play!
